Simple Tools to Power Up Your Small Business

Last year QR Codes were not that prominent however with covid hitting the economy there has been a resurgence of this little graphic that links to all kinds of information. Visit QR Codes Australia for more information.

What are QR Codes

QR Codes are a graphic, usually a PNG, jpeg, EPS or SVG that when scanned with a mobile phone, using a scanning app, can direct the user to all kinds of information from Youtube to Facebook, from Websites to Apps.

Some new phones can do this by just using the camera app. It can also contain direct information like a Vcard that allows you to add people’s info to your contact list.

They can also contain text, calendar events, email; addresses, geo locations, phone numbers, and some other details.

Types of QR Codes

There are basically two types of QR Codes. Static and Dynamic.

A static QR code is a one-off of QR Code that after creation can not be changed or edited in any way and are quite often free. They are created with a QR Code generator.

A dynamic QR Code is also created with a generator but is database driven so can be edited without changing the actual code. Because they are database generated there is often a cost involved. Also, they can be tracked to provide basic information like device, no of scans, general location to the nearest tower, etc.

QR Code Readers

One of the best readers for all devices that I like is the i-nigma Reader

You can download the reader directly to your mobile phone by visiting the web address: http://www.i-nigma.mobi/ which will automatically detect if your mobile phone is compatible.

QR Code Decorating

You can create a QR Code Graphic and then decorate it with any graphics program. You can add graphics, colour and even distort the it to some degree.

When doing this there are some key parts of the code that should not be touched.

QR Code logo decoration

You can see in some of the QR Codes above various changes.

Both colorful and graphic.

The important thing is when you make any changes you test them before releasing it.

Many of the services around these days allow you to do some of this right in the program to create the QR Code.

There are also some companies that specialize in decorating the Code however most graphic artists can do it.
